Solo Dance Residency 2024

SOLO DANCE RESIDENCY organized within the 16th Gdansk Dance Festival 2024

Two residents selected in an open competition for dance solo will spend a week in Klub Żak in Gdańsk, working on the pieces submitted to the competition. Megan Mazarick (US) and Andrei Kamarou (BY/PL) from the 22nd to 28th of April will focus on developing their ideas for the dance solos, with the help of Maciej Kuźmiński, choreographer and pedagogue. Residents will work using Kuźmiński’s original method for movement and composition called Dynamic Phrasing

The residency will end with the premiere presentation of developed Solo pieces on the stage of the Klub Żak on the 28th of April at 7 PM. 

Megan Mazarick is a Philadelphia-based choreographer, performer, and teacher. She combines movement with theater and text. Her choreographies are personal, humorous, and political using the elements of improvisation. Her work has been presented internationally (in Singapore, Bulgaria, Egypt, Poland, Australia, Hungary, and Mexico) and throughout the USA. She taught technique, improvisation, and composition classes. 

Andrei Kamarou is a graduate of the Belrusian State Academy of Arts in Minsk. He performed on the stage of the Polish National Opera in “Maria de Buenos Aires” and in “Don Kichote” at the Grand Theatre in Łódz, Poland. 

Maciej Kuźmiński is a choreographer, pedagogue, and producer. Initiator of Polish first Dance Network. he graduated from Dance Theatre and Choreography at the Trinity Laban Conservatory in London. 

His works are pure, with a grounded, dynamic movement language, and deal with existential and philosophical concepts. Since 2009 Maciej Kuźmiński developed an original method for movement and composition called Dynamic Phrasing

His works have been presented over 200 times in 22 countries. The artist has won over twenty international awards and distinctions for his performances created for the Maciej Kuźmiński Company. As a guest choreographer, he created companies like Staatstheater Kassel (Germany), Scapino Ballet Rotterdam (Netherlands), and Polish Dance Theater among others.
